The Rubino unveiled

On 21 May, our Port Hedland team hosted lunch for Monadelphous senior leaders as well as Tadano executives from Japan at our local workshop, as part of their visit to the region for the official unveiling of the largest crane ever to join the Monadelphous fleet.  

Prior to lunch, the unveiling ceremony was held, bringing together our senior leaders, local employees and BHP representatives to mark this incredible milestone.    

With the crane named in honour of former Monadelphous Chairman, John Rubino, members of the Rubino family also travelled to Port Hedland for the event.   

“Rubino” is a Tadano CC88.1600 and is one of the largest cranes in the southern hemisphere. With an impressive load capacity of 1600 tonnes, the Rubino is capable of lifting the equivalent of three Boeing 747 airplanes at a radius of 42 metres. With a total of 1,155 tonnes of counterweight, it can lift more than any other crane currently in Australia, making it a true powerhouse. 

Despite its size, the crane maintains remarkable agility and ease of handling, thanks to Tadano's innovative engineering.   

The new addition to the Heavy Lift fleet is a testament to Monadelphous’ commitment to innovation and excellence in the industry, enhancing our capability and efficiency of operations. Its purchase is part of our ongoing investment in the North-West region, where we have operated for more than 30 years. 

The Rubino has been commissioned to work on the BHP Car Dumper 3 project in Port Hedland.
