Our January Northern Star Award has been presented to Stephen Cunnold from the Port and East Pilbara team, recognising his outstanding contribution to teammates across MMNW.
The Northern Star program invites nominations to recognise teammates for going above and beyond.
Steve’s nominations highlighted the steady support he provides to those around him, with many noting his calm leadership, practical guidance, and genuine care for his team's wellbeing.
He is known for resolving issues quickly while still making time to assist others, creating a positive influence that reaches well beyond his immediate group.
His teammates described how he shares his knowledge, offers clarity in challenging moments, and consistently steps in to help wherever he is needed.

Nominees of the Northern Star Achievement Award are measured against the following attributes:
- Are energetic and enthusiastic about what they do. Their actions speak louder than their words (People)
- Are constantly looking for better, more efficient and effective ways of doing business, learning from events good or bad (Performance)
- Go beyond the expected norms, seek to exceed set targets and goals (Performance)
- Seeks solutions, to learn and to continually improve (Reputation)
- Display determination and tenacity when encountering obstacles and persist in overcoming them. They never give up. (Reputation)
Each nomination is considered for the monthly award as well as the annual Northern Star Achievement Award at the end of the year.
