Containers for change

Written by Communications | 23 Aug 2022

Our team at Cape Lambert have been working together to have a positive impact not only for our environment but for our community through the Containers for Change program.

The team saved 24,223 containers from landfill and generated $2,422 for the community as part of Wickham Tidy Towns.

Leading Hand Logistics Operator, Nigel Harrison said that giving back to the community was important to himself and the team and this is just one of the ways they work to make a difference.

“A change of late has seen our team supporting the local sporting teams and working closely with them through the program,” he said.

“This has enabled the local children to get involved in the recycling program but has also meant that the proceeds can directly benefit their sports clubs.”

The Cape Lambert team set up a roster for the children and their families to take a delivery of bulk containers on a Saturday morning once each month.

On Saturday 7 May, they loaded up four 1,000 litre containers and transported them to Wickham where the Wickham Wolves Auskick team unloaded the bottles into the recycling and gained $622 directly into their club’s account.

Nigel was there with Bradley McConkey to help on the day – both in high-vis so you could pick them from the kids!

Site Superintendent Bruce Ewen said the crew was happy to get involved with local causes and clubs like the Wickham Wolves.

“Wickham is home for a lot of us here on site and initiatives like this are a way we support and show our commitment to the community we work and live in,” he said.
