Get to know Chad

Meet Chad Sellenger, Superintendent for shutdowns and projects in the south-west region of Western Australia.

Chad joined Monadelphous in 2011 as a Shutdown Supervisor before taking a four-and-a-half-year break in London.

Chad said that, during his stint in London, he kept in touch with Peter Eddy and Mark Holdman and was able to start back with Monadelphous in January 2019.

“I came back for a few months during my break and picked up work at Cape Lambert doing shutdowns with the old crew,” he said.

“I’ve been on and off with Monadelphous for about eight years now and really enjoy being part of the team.

“Now in the south-west I generally wear many different hats during the week, but my main duties involve executing shutdowns, projects and maintenance works.”

Chad said that he is focused on maintaining the strong relationship with the customer and increasing our footprint as much as possible on site. He is also responsible for the fabrication that comes from the Bunbury workshop, which was established in 2020.

For Chad, a passionate AFL fan who was President of the West London Wildcats, a standout moment of his time with Monadelphous was winning the Footy Cup.

“Personally, I’ve got a fair few highlights at Monadelphous but ranking high on the list is coaching the 2019 Mining Minerals Southern Region Football Team to victory at the Footy Cup,” he said.

“Jeff Dalgleish will probably say I just moved the magnets around and managed the interchange but I’m certain our pre-game warm up was the winning factor.”

Football aside, Chad said that the best part of his role is, without a doubt, seeing people progress in their careers and he has the self-proclaimed title of Apprentice Master.

“At the end of 2019, we employed for the first time in several years, three apprentices for the south-west,” he said.

“Since then, we’ve been able to implement and establish an ongoing apprenticeship program and it’s super rewarding to help guide the apprentices to develop both personally and professionally and to excel at their trade.

“I come from a trade background myself and completed an apprenticeship with great support from others throughout my progression to becoming a tradesperson, so it’s great to be able to provide the same support for the next generation.”

Another highlight for Chad was being involved in getting the biggest crane in the southern hemisphere down to the south-west, which he describes as a big task but one that really paid off.

Outside of work, Chad spends his time renovating his home with partner Jess – a job that was put on hold since the arrival of their baby boy Austin. His weekends now consist of spending time with his family including their beloved dog Marshall and, when he can, squeezing in a round of golf.
