“My first trip to site was unforgettable! I was the only Engineer onsite which forced me to work hard and learn quickly. While it was daunting, it was the best experience I could’ve asked for.
I had been working in the Perth office for four months prior and then was mobilised to BHP’s South Flank Project in January 2020. I haven’t looked back since, I love it up on site.
It’s hard to believe I started two years ago with Monadelphous in the Graduate Program. I feel like the time has just flown by!
Since having started I’ve worked at the South Flank Stackers and Reclaimer project, Whaleback OHP4F Stacker upgrade and Jimblebar’s train load out (TLO) bin replacement project. It’s been a busy couple of years but having the opportunity to work on these sites is helping to build a strong foundation to progress my career.
With this job, no two days are the same. You rarely know where the next challenge will arrive from, which I really enjoy. Each challenge provides an opportunity for us to solve as a team, using the solution we have available to us in this environment.
The teams that I’ve worked with have been so helpful. I’ve had the pleasure of working with some excellent supervisors, superintendents and managers who have looked out for me since day one. Even though I don’t work with them all anymore, we stay in touch and I consider them friends – in my experience Monadelphous is all about the people!
On my time off, I love to head down south with my partner and friends for a weekend away. We generally hit the surf or go for a swim in the morning and a few drinks and watch the footy at night. I’m a huge Eagles fan; I even went to the Grand Final in 2018 and watched them win – a real highlight!
Working in this environment is great and if one of my mates was planning on joining the industry, I’d encourage them to do it. I’d say as long as you love digging in, aren’t afraid of getting a bit dirty and are willing to back yourself, then this is the perfect industry for you,” shared Alex.
