Virtually Possible: Leading the safe way in PNG

Written by Communications | 7 Feb 2023

Our frontline leaders are critical to project success and play a pivotal role in achieving safe and productive outcomes across our operations. Collaborating cross-functionally between Brisbane and Papua New Guinea, our Eastern Region is developing the leadership capability of our national supervisors by delivering virtual Leading the Safe Way for Supervisors programs, Monadelphous’s flagship internal frontline safety leadership program.

With the support of our Lihir and MWJV site teams, PNG citizen participants joined our Eastern Region Learning & Development Advisor virtually over 3 half days to build their safety leadership capabilities, learn from each other and enhance their internal professional network.

“It was great to work with members of our national PNG supervisory team – their positive energy is infectious, and their high level of engagement really enhanced the virtual learning environment. They each proactively contributed to all activities and weren’t afraid to share their perspectives and experiences as we moved through each topic.” – Sean Lavin, Learning & Development Advisor (Eastern Region).

Positive safety outcomes are good for everyone, and the topics covered provide a strong foundation for developing confident safety leaders across Monadelphous. Leading the Safe Way – Supervisors dives deep into various key topics including our values, safety leadership principles, building a strong safety culture, influencing safe behaviour, communicating effectively, as well as the critical role of supervision in managing risk.
