A simple check in goes a long way

Written by Communications | 30 Sep 2025

It only takes four little words to spark a powerful conversation: R U OK?

This year, teams across Monadelphous came together to recognise R U OK? Day, taking time out to connect, share, and support one another.

From site crews to office staff, people across the business paused to check in with their mates and remind each other of the importance of simply asking the question.

In the Southwest, our Bunbury team hosted a morning tea filled with good food, friendly faces, and meaningful conversations.

It was just one of the many ways our people across the business marked the day, creating spaces where conversations about mental health and wellbeing could flow naturally.

R U OK? Day is held every year on the second Thursday of September. It encourages all Australians to start conversations that could make a difference to someone who might be struggling. However, you don’t need to wait for a date on the calendar to reach out.

How can you play your part?

  1. Ask the question: Reach out to a friend, colleague, or family member and ask if they are OK.
  2. Listen to their answer: Be present and really hear them.
  3. Encourage action: Suggest something that might help.
  4. Check in: Follow up later to show you care.

The R U OK? website is full of conversation guides, videos, and resources to help you feel more confident starting the chat.

Remember, you don’t have to be an expert, you just need to be a good mate who is willing to listen.

A small conversation today could make a huge difference.
