With his Monadelphous journey spanning over 15 years, Michael King recently took the time to sit down and share his insights from his career so far with us.
Michael, the Branch Manager at Roxby Downs, said it was his desire for a better lifestyle that initially kicked off his journey in the mining industry.
"My wife Tracey and I decided to try something different, with a focus on the mining sector," Michael said.
"I started at Monadelphous on the 12th of May 2008, a day etched in my memory because it was a day after my wedding anniversary. That was my first mobilisation date."
His team now comprises 120 individuals of various disciplines, including fitters, boilermakers, electricians, blast & painters, mechanics, and a workshop fabrication team. The diversity of his team reflects the dynamism of his role, which encompasses ad-hoc maintenance work, shutdown services and small projects.
There have been many highlights during his career, as he has progressed from a boilermaker in Mt Gambier to Branch Manager at Olympic Dam. Along the way, he has explored new opportunities and work fronts within Monadelphous, contributing to the company's growth and success.
"I enjoy the Monadelphous teams I've worked with in both South Australia and Western Australia, as well as the challenge and diversity of our different clients and the tasks we complete," Michael said.
Michael has been involved in a range of critical projects, including the Olympic Dam PLS line replacement, Worsley Alumina construction rectification, Cape Lambert shutdowns where he was Superintendent, Paraburdoo GTU replacement, Millenium Crystal automated plant installation, and Boddington Gold Pressure roller replacements.
Looking ahead, Michael's focus remains on guiding and influencing the careers of younger employees so they can follow their own path to success within the company.
"I'm really looking forward to continuing to offer guidance to and influence the careers of some of our younger employees so they are inspired to progress their careers and skills," he said.
Outside of work, Michael indulges in his passion for golf, dedicating most of his spare time to the sport. He's also a keen contributor to the local community, helping at the golf course, and enjoys BBQs with friends, as well as making the occasional trip to Adelaide to visit his four children and four grandchildren.
Congratulations to Michael for 15 years of invaluable contributions to our success.
