Double decades with Damien

Twenty years of service is a fantastic achievement which Damien Knight recently celebrated.  

Originally from Melbourne, Damien started working at Monadelphous in 2004 as a boilermaker in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia initially needing to adapt to the different weather conditions.  

"At the time when I joined Monadelphous, working in the extreme heat conditions in the Goldfields, I had wondered if I had made the right choice. But I just had to suck it up and climatise to the weather, which was much different to Victorian weather," Damien said. 

Damien recalls his transition from the earth-moving division to structural steel fabrication, both within the workshop and on various sites. His commitment and hard work didn't go unnoticed, leading him to his current role as Quality & Welding Coordinator. 

"When I was approached for the Quality Control/Weld Inspection role, I jumped at the opportunity," he said. 

"It's been a journey of growth and learning, and I have been well supported by my colleagues and by Monadelphous." 

Damien's career trajectory shows the diverse pathways available in the industry. Starting as a boilermaker apprentice in Melbourne, he later installed boilers across Australia before finding his niche at Monadelphous in Kalgoorlie. 

"What I enjoy most about my role is the variety it offers," Damien said.  

"From inspections to supervising projects involving tanks, pressure vessels, piping, and structural steel, every day brings something new." 

Outside work, Damien finds joy in family time, fitness pursuits at the gym, and through community contribution via volunteering and attending church. He beams with pride as he talks about his son, who recently began his boilermaker apprenticeship, following in his father's footsteps. 

When asked about his favourite memory at Monadelphous, Damien said he couldn't pinpoint just one.  

"It's the everyday moments, working alongside great people, that make it special," he said.  

"Sharing a laugh amidst challenging projects is what keeps me going." 

Damien is excited to see what the future brings.  

"I'm content where I am now, but who knows what lies ahead?" he said. 

"I hope to continue contributing to Monadelphous for many more years to come."
