In his current role as Superintendent of Mine End at Olympic Dam, Tom is proud to have helped be part of building a capable, successful team and is keen to support the next generation of leaders coming through. “A career highlight has been stepping into leadership roles, strengthening the relationship between Monadelphous and BHP, and watching our team grow and develop into a highly capable and successful team,” Tom said. Today, Tom oversees a core ‘business-as-usual’ team of three supervisors and 13 tradespeople, alongside the Olympic Dam Shutdown Project (ODSP) Crane Crew, Rail Crew and Mechanics department. The role brings together the things he enjoys most, in working with people, solving operational challenges and achieving safe, successful outcomes. His first assignment with Monos back in 2018, however, involved a different kind of coordination. “I remember my first job I was put on when I started with Monos, was a Clark stacker feeder reline,” Tom said. “I had to organise all the liners in order of installation and make sure all the liners were accounted for.” From lining up those first liners to leading teams, Tom has since contributed to projects including the Underground Rail Box Beam replacement, CV7/8 Transfer Chute and Structure replacement, and New Desalination Plant Cooling Towers. Above all, it’s the team at Roxby that continues to make the work rewarding for Tom. “I enjoy working with our team here at Roxby, solving operational challenges, and seeing the team achieve safe and successful outcomes,” he said. Looking ahead, Tom wants to build on that momentum by developing upcoming leaders and expanding our capabilities at Olympic Dam and across other Copper SA sites. “We have a great opportunity to position Monadelphous well to capitalise off the exciting opportunities ahead in South Australia,” he said. Outside work, Tom enjoys golf, running and spending time with friends and family.
