From welder to all-rounder: Aris Tibay’s 20-years at Monos

Twenty years is no small feat, and for Aris, it’s been a career built on hard work, adaptability and the people he’s worked alongside.

As part of a group of recruits who made the journey to Kalgoorlie, Aris started with Monos as a coded welder in 2006 and has spent the past two decades continually broadening his expertise far beyond the trade in which he began.

Aris’ longevity and commitment are a true testament to his loyalty, dedication, and contribution to the business, as he is now one of the last remaining members of that group still working with the Monadelphous Kalgoorlie team.

“In many ways my core role remains the same today, however, over the years I’ve had the opportunity to learn boiler making, and fitting and rigging, which has helped me grow professionally and become more versatile in my work,” Aris said.

Aris has also obtained HDPE pipe welding certification along the way.

Over the years, Aris has seen plenty of change across the industry, and one of the biggest shifts has been the growing shortage of skilled workers, which makes teamwork and supporting one another on the job more important than ever.

Like anyone with two decades under their belt, Aris has faced his fair share of challenges, however, he stands by the mantra of showing up each day and playing your part.

“One of the most important things I’ve learned is the value of patience and perseverance,” Aris said.

“No matter how difficult the situation gets, staying committed and working through challenges step by step helps you continue to improve.”

Reflecting on his time at Monos over the past 20 years, Aris said he’s always wanted to be known as a team player, and someone people know they can rely on.

“Building good relationships with coworkers has always been important to me,” Aris said.

“We help one another, especially when tasks become challenging. Even simple things like saying ‘good morning’ and offering support help create a positive workplace and make coming to work each day more enjoyable.”

Over the years, Aris has supported critical works across multiple operations, from assisting with urgent boiler outages in Roxby Downs, to undertaking extended assignments throughout the Goldfields at sites including Ravensthorpe, Mt Keith, Darlot, Granny Smith, KCGM and Kanowna Belle.

“His adaptability, reliability and commitment to delivering for the business have been hallmarks of his career,” Goldfields Branch Manager, Luke Ryan said.

“Equally noteworthy are the personal sacrifices Aris has made along the way.

“While building his career in Australia, he has spent extended periods away from his family in the Philippines, making the difficult choice to be away from loved ones to provide them with greater opportunities and security.”

His story is one of dedication, resilience and selflessness, reflecting not only a commitment to his work, but also to the wellbeing of his family.

As he celebrates 20 years with the business, Aris said he was thankful for everyone who’s made an impact on his time so far.

“I’m grateful to everyone I’ve worked with over the years, and I’d like to thank the Monadelphous Kalgoorlie team and our main office in Perth for being part of this journey,” Aris said.
