Monadelphous in your community

Written by Communications | 29 Aug 2022

Each year Monadelphous support a range of social value activities across our key regional and metropolitan areas, giving back to the local communities in which we live and work.

In the last financial year, we successfully implemented over 100 initiatives across 25 locations, including 30 sporting sponsorships, Keep Australia Beautiful Day clean ups in five locations, Containers for Change recycling programs, event volunteering, education partnerships, a foreshore rehabilitation program and more.

Many of these opportunities were provided to us by our people, and it is important that we continue to support initiatives that you care about and want to be a part of.

That’s why we want to hear from you. Let us know what would you like to see us support in your local community. Fill in the short form here (2 min)

Inspiring students to follow the dream

As part of our partnership with the Polly Farmer Foundation, we recently hosted 21 students at our Bibra Lake Employee Development Centre (EDC) to give them a taste of the life at Monadelphous.

The cohort of students was a mix of years 8, 9 and 10 from schools across the southwest who are part of the Follow the Dream program.

The students engaged in hands-on experience with some of our plant and equipment, including a ride on an EWP, operating a fire extinguisher, dressing up in protective welding gear and even operating a crane.

EDC Manager Mark Thygesen said that the purpose of the activity was to provide the students with some insight into the industry and discuss the employment pathways opportunities at Monadelphous.

“The underlying message through all the discussions was to teach the kids about jobs and pathways within our industry and how to be intentional about starting, committing and achieving,” he said.

“They were all really excited at the opportunity to operate the machinery as it’s something they will talk about and remember for a long time.

“At that age, they don’t know what they don’t know yet, so seeing and doing something new and exciting leaves a lasting impression.”

The students asked many questions throughout the morning, with a number of them expressing their interest in working for Monadelphous one day.

The Follow the Dream program is part of our ongoing partnership with the Polly Farmer Foundation, where we continue to give students access to opportunities to learn about employment pathways within our industry.
