It’s been another action-packed month across MMS, with plenty of stand-out nominations showcasing the values we live and work by.
Taking out the top spot for March is Daniel Newby from Olympic Dam!
Daniel, an apprentice with an eye for safety, has gone above and beyond in demonstrating safe work practices—most notably when he stopped work to tag out a faulty vehicle hoist jack. His attention to detail, dedication to proper procedures and commitment to proactively identifying hazards have made a big impact on the team and contributed to a stronger safety culture. Daniel’s maturity, professionalism and passion for safety shine through in everything he does, and we’re proud to recognise his incredible growth and leadership in this space. Great work, Daniel!
Let’s also give a big shout-out to our other March nominees, each of whom will receive a $50 gift card for their efforts:
Louis McCully – Recognised twice by the Worsley crew for his eagerness to learn and positive attitude towards feedback. As an apprentice, Louis always asks the right questions and continuously improves his skills.
Al Anthony Gablinez – Came up with an innovative rigging idea that eliminated manual handling when lifting wear plates, showing great initiative and care for his teammates’ wellbeing.
Mitchel Tomch, Brett Hickman, Toby Hawkins, Bruce Tyler, and Brad Sant (Boddington Core Crew) – Showed incredible courage and teamwork when they became first responders to a major car accident. The team calmly managed the scene and cared for the injured occupant until emergency services arrived.
Todd Lyons – A standout at Worsley for his attention to detail and proactive approach to safety. Todd identified critical issues with support structures on-site, prompting design changes and ensuring safer outcomes for all.
Todd Harrington – Recognised for his non-stop dedication and willingness to jump in wherever needed during the shutdown. His work ethic and positive presence didn’t go unnoticed by the client at Worsley.
Cameron Muir and the Rigging Team at Worsley – Took on high-risk lifting work with skill and composure. Cam’s leadership has fostered camaraderie and safer practices within the team.
Cameron Muir (additional nomination) – Went the extra mile by staying back after hours to assist the client following a train derailment, helping to plan and execute complex crane lifts.
KMK Cogen Team – Achieved an incredible milestone of two years without a forced outage at their facility—beating the previous record of 18 months. Their teamwork, innovation and commitment to safety are second to none.
Colin “Geeza” Robinson – A true team player down at RTW, Geeza leads by example, sharing his knowledge and keeping safety front and centre while helping apprentices build their skills.
