Monos recognised in Safe Choices Award

A quick pause on the tools made all the difference for Luke Gamma, earning him a BHP Safe Choices Award during the Smelter shutdown.

While working on a Level 3 hot works job in the sulphur area, Luke noticed the assigned fire watch was new to the site and was unsure what to do. Rather than push on, he stopped to make sure she was set up to succeed.

He walked through her responsibilities, key site hazards, emergency assembly points, radio communication, and how to safely operate equipment, including the water hose and valve checks.

By the end, she was confident in her role and ready to go.

It is a simple call that shows the impact of taking a moment to support your crew, helping create a safer workplace and ensuring everyone goes home safely.

“This was a great example of our Monadelphous culture in action,” Roxby Downs Area Manager Michael King said.

“Taking the time to support a teammate, build their confidence and make sure they are set up to work safely shows real care for others and strong ownership on site.

“Well done, Luke.”
