Skirt Liner Tool
Who: Idea posted by Miles Davis, Construction Management Graduate, on behalf of the Boddington team.
Idea: Seating skirt liners in the correct position in a chute is a difficult task – people inside and or on the chute are required to lift and hold the heavy liners, which can cause back strains or other injuries.
Our solution, the skirt liner tool, is inserted from the outside of the chute and hooks under the body of the wall, above the belt, to help situate the liners.
Benefits:
HEALTH, SAFETY & ENVIRONMENT – The skirt liner tool enables the crew to work as a team, with the person situated on the outside of the chute bearing the brunt of the weight of the liner.
QUALITY – Enables a better fitment of the skirt liner in the chute, as the person inside is more easily able to adjust the liner.
Current status: Tool is in use for all chute skirt liner installations at Boddington.
Road Train Warning System
Who: Idea posted by Jason Parslow, Project Manager.
Idea: Containers on road trains had been making contact with a gantry walkway structure at a site in Kalgoorlie – the containers were approximately 250mm higher than the 3.9m clearance. Monadelphous was asked to present and implement an idea that would alarm oncoming truck drivers that they were too close to the gantry walkway structure and to stop immediately to avoid a collision.
To solve this problem, a simple limit switch was mounted to the front of the structure on a frame that was wired up to a warning signal light and siren, with a sign mounted for around the clock operation.
Benefits:
HEALTH, SAFETY & ENVIRONMENT – Safer workplace, reduction in accidents and associated damage.
COST REDUCTION – System designed and installed at minimum cost and runs off solar power.
Current status: Since the installation, there has been no collisions or damage to plant and equipment.
