We are kicking off the new year by closing out our final Monos Moments nominations from December. It was a strong finish with great examples of people looking out for each other and keeping safety front of mind. Big congrats to everyone nominated and a special shout-out to our December winner.
Don’t forget you can submit nominations anytime to highlight great work on your site, so keep them coming.
Winner - James Smith
James picked up on a loose sheet metal sign sitting precariously eight metres above ground while being shown a new task. A decent gust of wind or even a small knock could have sent it flying, which would have put people at risk. James removed the hazard and secured it safely, a great example of staying alert and looking after the work environment. Nicely done, James.
Let’s also give a big shout-out to our other December nominees, each of whom will receive a $50 gift card for their efforts:
Anthony Davis - While proving isolation on a DB, Anthony noticed a loose incoming active connection that could be pulled from its terminal. He immediately notified his Supervisor and then checked the rest of the terminations. Loose electrical connections can lead to arcing and fire, so this one was well worth the early catch.
Keith Panton - Keith noticed a road train parked near the yard gates, blocking visibility for our forklift operator. He headed next door to explain the safety issue and had the truck moved, smoothing out traffic flow and reducing risk for everyone.
Ryan Woods - During prep for crane lifts on the Cooling Tower site, Ryan spotted protruding Rio bar and went straight into action. He scanned the whole job front for similar hazards and cleaned them up, a solid example of see something say something, then actually do something.
Teinakore Teau - Teau continues to build a team culture where people feel comfortable stopping the job and calling out safety concerns. It’s the kind of leadership that makes a big difference day to day and reinforces that the safe way is the only way.
William Newbery - When asked to transport old liners from Fixed Plant, William stopped to check the load and identified that it wasn’t stacked securely. He raised this with the client and had it restacked on pallets and cages before moving it. A smart call that kept the transport safe and compliant.
