We are kicking off the year with our first Monos Moments nominations for January, and it’s a great one. There were some strong examples this month of people stepping in, looking out for their mates, and keeping safety front of mind. Big congrats to everyone who was nominated, and a special shout-out to our January winner.
Don’t forget, you can submit nominations anytime to highlight great work on your site, so keep them coming.
Winner – Michelle Ali
Michelle showed great awareness and initiative in two separate situations this month.
First, after noticing damage to the Medical Centre building and seeing an Asbestos Register sign, Michelle didn’t make assumptions or walk past it. Unsure whether the damaged area contained asbestos, she reported the hazard to Main Gate straight away as a precaution, helping make sure the right checks could happen before anyone was put at risk.
On another occasion, Michelle spotted a burnt-out vehicle on the side of the main road to Olympic Dam that was barely visible in low light. Given its size and position, it was a serious hazard for approaching traffic. Michelle responded by sourcing and placing reflective bollards to improve visibility and reduce the risk to others.
Two great examples of seeing a risk and taking action. Nicely done, Michelle.
Let’s also give a big shout-out to our other January nominees, each of whom will receive a $50 gift card for their efforts:
Briony Partington – Briony was nominated for consistently going above and beyond to support her teammates. From day one, she has made a genuine effort to include others, offer guidance, and share her knowledge, no matter how busy she is. She has also stepped in to cover roles in addition to her own workload when needed, making a real difference to the team around her.
Bruce Forster – With multiple large and medium-sized projects delivered back-to-back, Bruce has played a key role in logistics, including batching, packing, and deliveries to Geraldton. Our haulage contractor delivering steel to Olympic Dam even called out the quality of Bruce’s loading and securing of modules, a great result under pressure.
Kieran Hanley – While isolating air-conditioning circuits at the Core Farm, Kieran identified that one unit’s “FED FROM” label was incorrect. Even after isolating the labelled circuit, testing showed the unit was still live. Kieran kept investigating, found the correct supply, and only then safely disconnected the unit, a strong example of testing and verifying rather than relying on labels or permits alone.
Andrew Hill – Andrew demonstrated a high level of professionalism during a recent hopper blast and painting works. He is always looking out for his workmates, whether that’s working together to get the job done or finding a safer way to do it, and this was clear during the surface treatment of fabricated hoppers.
Luke Green – Greeny spotted steel in a rack that had shifted and was leaning with the potential to roll and fall, and used the Franna to rearrange the area and remove the hazard, making the space safe again. He also organised a BBQ for the Monadelphous crew to kick off the new year.
