November delivered another round of standout efforts across the business, and this month’s top recognition goes to someone who made a real difference on the ground.
Congratulations to our November Monos’ Moment winner, Jessica Coombe from the Worsley team!
Winner – Jessica Coombe
While acting as a sentry during the FAC-110 Boiler 2 shutdown, Jessica noticed that the number of people entering the confined space had grown far beyond what was planned.
Her escalation prompted the Customer to review the Work Group Risk Assessment, which led to the space being reclassified and better controls being put in place.
Jessica’s attention to detail and willingness to speak up made a real impact on keeping the space safe for everyone involved. Great job, Jessica!
Alongside Jessica, we had a strong group of nominees who each brought something special to their teams this month.
Alison Atherton - A customer recently requested detailed information to demonstrate our capabilities in Alumina. While some content existed, tailoring it specifically required creativity and a clever approach to presentation. Alison delivered an impressive, professional package that clearly reflected her high standards and deep understanding of our business. Caroline Mason and Quentin Radomiljac also supported the work and deserve a strong mention for their contribution.
Brayden Thomas & Ben Marsh - When critical commissioning work was needed late on a Friday, Brayden and Ben stepped up to help the OEM representatives on site down at Albemarle to provide mechanical support. The job was expected to spill into Monday, but they volunteered to stay back late, completing the mechanical items needed to allow weekend function testing. Their efforts gave the client two extra days of operational data ahead of shutdown, which was hugely appreciated.
Jason Smit – Jason spotted smouldering inside the boiler and acted quickly to extinguish it before it became a hazard. His fast response ensured the area remained safe for the team.
Mathew Sione - Matty stepped up to cover the Site Supervisor role for a week and supported the scaffolding crew with on-the-job training. He’s been mentoring the younger team members and teaching them the right way to approach their work. A solid example of stepping in where needed and helping others build on their skills.
Nicholas Hewton - During the Boddington Shutdown, Nicholas consistently showed professionalism, a strong focus on safety and great support for his crew. He took the lead in helping others, sharing knowledge and creating a positive working environment. He made sure everyone stayed signed onto the correct paperwork and followed safe practices, setting a strong standard for the rest of the team. His efforts contributed to an efficient and successful shutdown.
Paul Collins - Paul who was nominated twice this month took the lead on a major mechanical packing job, showing great teamwork and an eye for the safety of those around him. With 100% attendance and a steady approach backed by strong experience, he’s a reliable performer who consistently delivers quality work down at Worsley.
Sam Zierk - Sam went above and beyond to diagnose and repair the Bunbury workshop bandsaw, keeping production on track without delays. Instead of passing the issue on, he took ownership and worked through the fix himself, showing great initiative and support for his team.
Stevie Smillie - Stevie has already made a positive impact on a brand-new employee who has nominated him. Stevie and his colleagues have been incredibly helpful and supportive, especially while newer people get their bearings with new tasks and work areas.
