What started as a casual chat quickly picked up pace—literally.
When Roxby Downs’ electrician Scott White searched for a local running club on Strava last year, he found… nothing.
So, in September, he started his own. Fast forward to now, and the Roxby Downs Running Club has 86 members, bringing together runners of all abilities.
Scott has seen first-hand how the club has strengthened connections—not just within the Monos’ community but also across Roxby Downs. Running was something many people in town enjoyed, but they were mostly doing it alone. The club has changed that.
“The best part for me is seeing the improvement in the group and individual runners,” Scott said.
“We have lots of runners that struggled with 2k when they started, and now they’re running 10k on a regular basis.”
The club’s runs are organised through their Instagram page, @roxbyrunclub, making it easy for everyone to stay connected and motivated. It’s attracted all kinds of runners, from beginners to marathon veterans, and even local sporting groups have encouraged their players to join in for pre-season training.
The Monos team has also been getting involved, with around 10 Monos people running with the club so far, even MMS General Manager Paul Francis has committed to joining in next time he visits.
While the club didn’t start as a Monos’ initiative, Scott said there’s been strong support from the team. —including helping to get the club’s first official singlets.
With the group’s first official singlets now available, members will be running in style. But for Scott, it’s not about the gear—it’s about the camaraderie.
“The club has been a great way to bring people together. Whether you’re new to town or have been here for years, it’s an easy way to meet people, stay active, and have a bit of fun along the way,” he said.
And when you’ve run 6k in 40-degree heat, nothing beats sitting around, having a chat, and soaking up the sense of achievement together.
