As part of our contract with Tronox at KMK Cogeneration Facility in Kwinana, Western Australia, our team undertook a major inspection and turbine rotor replacement during a scheduled 32-day shutdown earlier this year. The shutdown, which included 13,800 hours worked, was made up of a variety of works, including major inspections, end of life rotor replacement, hydrostatic testing and repairs.
The gas turbine rotor needed to be replaced after 200,000 hours (about 22 years) in operation and will allow its continued uninterrupted operation for another three years.
The planning phase for the project went for about 12-months, before the shut, which was completed during day and night shift by a team made up of around 50 people.
The team was commended for their efforts on the successful replacement, delivered under budget, on time and safely.
Well done to everyone involved!
