Welcome to our first edition of Around the Sites, our newly named newsletter incorporating our shared national team – replacing Mining and Minerals West News! Our aim is to equip you with all the latest information and news from around the business, celebrate successes and recognise our people. We’re open to hearing any feedback on the type of information you’d like to hear or see more of, and always feel free to share any news with us to be included in this newsletter.
We have had a challenging month for safety experiencing a serious incident on one of our projects, and we’ve experienced some other incidents mainly dropped objects – this again demonstrates how we all need to be relentless with our safety focus. We need to reset and regroup on our safety message – the safe way is the only way.
We’ve talked a lot over the last few months about our pipeline of work and have tried to provide assurance in regard to upcoming work. On this point, a few projects have had our scope of work extended and we have secured new work at a major iron ore project in the Pilbara which will require up to 350 resources over the coming months. This hopefully is just the beginning of a strong order book of work on the horizon. Tendering continues to be very busy; we currently have several Early Contractor Involvements (ECIs) which are due to commence in our core markets which hopefully translate in the future to major contract awards.
The Engineering Construction (EC) division is also making a return to Mongolia, with the securing of an SMPE&I contract at the Oyu Tolgoi (OT) Underground Project for Rio Tinto. Our works include the construction of two conveyors and an electrical substation, and associated integration to existing facilities. Mobilisations and project preparation has commenced already.
August was a full month of shutdown activity, achieving several milestones on our active projects and seeing many of them come to a successful completion:
