We have had a challenging month for safety experiencing a serious incident on one of our projects, and we’ve experienced some other incidents mainly dropped objects – this again demonstrates how we all need to be relentless with our safety focus. We need to reset and regroup on our safety message – the safe way is the only way.
We’ve talked a lot over the last few months about our pipeline of work and have tried to provide assurance in regard to upcoming work. On this point, a few projects have had our scope of work extended and we have secured new work at a major iron ore project in the Pilbara which will require up to 350 resources over the coming months. This hopefully is just the beginning of a strong order book of work on the horizon. Tendering continues to be very busy; we currently have several Early Contractor Involvements (ECIs) which are due to commence in our core markets which hopefully translate in the future to major contract awards.
The Engineering Construction (EC) division is also making a return to Mongolia, with the securing of an SMPE&I contract at the Oyu Tolgoi (OT) Underground Project for Rio Tinto. Our works include the construction of two conveyors and an electrical substation, and associated integration to existing facilities. Mobilisations and project preparation has commenced already.
August was a full month of shutdown activity, achieving several milestones on our active projects and seeing many of them come to a successful completion:
- For Rio, the final shutdown in Tom Price was completed, marking the closure of the shutdown campaign. The final major shutdown was a challenge, working in difficult brownfield circumstances, however, it was delivered well despite a few safety incidents with dropped objects, these were managed well, and the team pulled together to close out a busy campaign of work
- At Gudai-Darri the team is closing in on completion. While mostly demobilised, we’ve been scoped for some additional work which is keeping a crew of just over 50 onsite
- The July major shutdown at South Flank Inflow was completed ahead of schedule. This was due to wrap up our additional work, however we have again been requested to extend out until the end of September
- Work continues on the Tronox Project in Broken Hill, with mobilisations bringing the team up to peak numbers in September
- At Talison Lithium’s Greenbushes mobilisations have commenced, with an initial team of 11 doing preparation works for our SMPE&I works on the Mine Services Area (MSA)
- Works continue on Train 2 at the Kemerton Lithium Plant (KLP), with the final E&I commissioning
