A highly skilled team was spotted abseiling down the INPEX Ichthys Venturer facility’s hull as part of the Fabric Maintenance Campaign recently.
Their scope was to remove corrosion caused by the harsh marine environment and ensure the long-term integrity of our client’s facility.
Many teams and departments collaborated to identify the best solution for the coating remediation scope. Whilst this work scope presented a significant challenge, everyone focused on delivering a quality outcome while minimising the associated risks.
After a thorough planning process over the past year, the team completed the hull repairs on the FPSO transom hull at water level. A HAZID was completed to review the use of a breathing air compressor whilst abrasive blasting, and a high-level risk assessment was undertaken for abrasive blasting on ropes over water. Significant effort was put into the planning and coordination of the activity both in Perth and Offshore.
This campaign marked several FPSO firsts for Monadelphous, including wet abrasive blasting from ropes on an offshore facility, drawing safe breathing air from a zone-rated compressor, utilising the newly supplied AmphiBlast wet abrasive blast unit, and applying specialised coatings under the waterline.
The HSE, Inspection, Tech Safety, Offshore Operations, Fabric Maintenance, and Implementation teams were all recognised for their support in safely executing this scope.
