For more than two decades, Monadelphous has worked in partnership with local communities across Papua New Guinea, with PNG nationals now comprising more than 80 per cent of our workforce in the region. While our people are highly skilled and deeply committed, some employees come from remote regions with limited access to formal education.

Recognising that strong literacy skills are fundamental to safety, Monadelphous partnered with the Santos Foundation to deliver weekend literacy sessions through a local humanitarian and development organisation, supporting our workforce to learn, grow and work safely.

This investment reinforces Monadelphous’ commitment to building a safer, more capable workforce.

“It’s been incredibly rewarding to see the increased confidence in our people who have completed the literacy program,” said John Redmond, Site Manager.

“The program focuses on practical reading, writing and pronunciation skills that directly support safety and day-to-day work performance.”

In addition to the literacy initiative, Monadelphous continues to work closely with PNG’s National Apprenticeship and Trade Testing Board to deliver an apprenticeship program at the Lihir facility, Molondo, helping to build long-term skills and capability within the local workforce.

Monadelphous remains committed to investing in local talent and nationalising the workforce. Currently, 83 per cent of our workforce in PNG is comprised of PNG nationals, well on the way to our 2028 target of 87 per cent.
