Meet Electrical & Instrumentation Superintendent Padraig Flanagan, affectionately known around Monadelphous as Podge.
Padraig recently celebrated his five-year work anniversary with Monadelphous, so we sat down with him to have a chat about some of the projects he’s involved with, what he’s learned and the highlights so far!
Having started with us on a Liquified Natural Gas project in Darwin, Podge was soon presented an opportunity to go to Mongolia.
“It was an opportunity that I couldn’t turn down and the project certainly moulded who I am as a professional and my career,” said Padraig.
“The project had its challenges along the way, but we had an amazing team with a great culture and that was the difference in us pulling through together.”
Since 2019, Padraig has been working on a large project in the Western Australian Pilbara.
“It’s been another major project for me that is providing great learning opportunities and given me the chance to take on more of an active role in overseeing all discipline works Structural Mechanical Piping (SMP) and Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I).
“I have had great mentors along the way where I can call them up and ask questions if I’m not sure or need to run an idea past them. They steer me in the right direction if need be and I’m grateful for those opportunities,” said Padraig.
Having been with Monadelphous for the last five years, we asked Padraig what the best bits of working at Monadelphous are.
“You’re encouraged to get the best out of yourself, and the opportunity to grow is only limited by one’s self-doubt, it’s great to be supported by our leaders and to be given different opportunities,” said Padraig.
An Irish native, Padraig tries to get back to his homeland, including his farm, whenever he can. To make Australia feel more like home, Padraig and his mate from Ireland decided to buy a small property here to house livestock.
When he’s not working on his farms, which take up some of his spare time, Padraig is a keen rugby fan and tries to attend the world cup every four years.
Thank you for being part of the Monadelphous family, Padraig!
