Leadership Updates
2 Minute Read

Late last year, we held our first Group-wide employee survey in over a decade, where our team was invited to provide feedback on what it’s like to work at Monadelphous. You can read a summary of the feedback in this edition of The Fix.

I also wanted to take this opportunity to give you a snapshot of what our Mining and Minerals North West Region (MMNW) team told us. Below is a high-level overview – please remember the survey was managed by an independent research agency to maintain complete anonymity, so I haven’t seen and will not see individual responses.

  • More than 300 of our team took the opportunity to participate (adding to 1,700 others across Monadelphous).
  • Our team’s satisfaction rating was 7.1 out of 10, which is on par with the rest of the Company. Our professional and office-based employees were slightly more satisfied than our tradespeople and site-based employees.
  • It was really pleasing to see that you thought we were really strong in the areas of safety and values / culture.
  • In terms of what you said you think we should work on, these areas included rosters, remuneration and career progression.

Overall, MMNW feedback is well aligned with Monadelphous company-wide feedback and there were no real surprises, which suggests to me that we are heading in the right direction.

As you probably remember, back in 2019 and 2021 we conducted our own MMNW employee surveys. These identified that you wanted us to focus on control and visibility of mobilisation information, work and job security and career progression. The outcomes of these surveys included the development and launch of our app MonaWork, a number of our team being moved from our general work pool to our core portfolios, the development and launch of our Supervisor Passport program and a stronger focus on performance plans and career development.

This week, a set of survey commitments were released by our General Manager of Human Resources. These should help address some of the things you asked us to take a look at. I encourage you to have a look at these commitments, which you can find here. They will also help shape our 2023/24 MMNW Strategy, which we are currently in the process of developing as part of our annual strategic planning process.

In other news, all of our teams have been busy across our locations, with a number of good news stories to share.

Congratulations firstly to the East Pilbara Projects team for taking out the first M&IS Teamwork Baton for the year. You may recall reading about the team’s efforts in The Fix a few months back and how they navigated complex challenges and ensured a great start to our partnership with Roy Hill.  Impressively, the team completed the major works on the Fortescue River river crossing in less than two weeks, thanks to their planning, faultless execution and combined skillset.

Our Tom Price team has also been kicking goals, with the first ore being processed on the 11CM Conveyor Project in March. This is a significant milestone on a huge project for the team and another great success story. You can read more about it in this edition of The Fix.

Over in Port Hedland, the team recently completed their first major milestone at their new facility, lifting and relocating a Track Maintenance Machine from Nelson Point to our branch in Wedgefield to start the installation works on the AOS system. This demonstrates our new facility’s capabilities and I look forward to bringing you more updates in future newsletters.

On 8 March we celebrated International Women’s Day across Monadelphous, a global day to reflect on the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. It was also an opportunity to reflect on this year’s theme, “Embracing Equity”, which is about the importance of acknowledging that every individual has unique circumstances, and therefore requires specific resources and opportunities to achieve equal outcomes.

Also in this edition, find out why Tender Writer, James Trench, rode 7,000 kilometres this March and check out our most recent MMNW Northern Star Achievement Award and Safety Champion winners.

Enjoy reading and please stay safe.

Nick.
