Record shutdown at Fortescue Metals Group Solomon Hub

In November, the Heavy Lift team executed an industry record shutdown at Fortescue Metals Group’s (Fortescue) Solomon Hub. There were approximately 9,000 labour hours completed, which is an outstanding achievement to coordinate a shutdown of this nature, all with zero harm.

The scope of work for a shut of this nature, would normally take between nine to 11 days, however with a detailed pre-planning phase, the team were able to streamline the process.

The stretch target of seven and a half days was achieved, setting an industry standard. 

“The way we work together with Fortescue determines the way we succeed, which was evident with this record shutdown,” said Project Superintendent Brent Mason.

“It’s another example of the Monadelphous way with the team working together and supporting each other to achieve a common goal. The passion in achieving success for our customers means we seek solutions, learn, and continually improve”

The shutdown required a nine-month pre-execution phase to ensure Fortescue and Monadelphous worked collaboratively to achieve the best possible outcome for both parties. It’s with this comprehensive planning that the team were able to complete the shutdown within the planned seven and half day schedule.

“It’s a testament to the team’s cohesion and hard work, Fortescue awarded the whole team with a True Blue award,” said Brent.

The True Blue award is an Fortescue teamwork achievement award that recognises an individual or a team that performs consistently at a high level and demonstrates safety in each task.
