G’day everyone and welcome to the latest edition of In the Loop.
Last month, more than 130 leaders from across the M&IS division gathered for the annual Leadership Conference in Perth. It was a great opportunity to connect with other leaders from around the business and gain some insights into how we can take lessons learnt and apply them into our diverse businesses.
As part of the conference, we presented the divisional safety awards. The ‘Forksure’ device from the Gladstone team received a commendation in the best innovation category, with Lihir PNG being recognised for Best Overall Safety Performance. With more than 550,000 hours worked, Lihir had no serious incidents or recordable incidents.
This is a tremendous achievement from the team and while it’s great to be recognised for our safety efforts, our safety performance across the business unit is pretty ordinary. Hand and finger injuries continue to be a trend, and not a good one. Let’s work together and be mindful of what we need to do to ensure our high safety standards are maintained. Nothing is more important than everyone returning home safely each day. At Monadelphous, The Safe Way is the Only Way is more than just a policy – it’s how we look out for each other and is an authority to stop work until a safe work method can be found. The Safe Way is the Only Way underpins everything we do and sets a clear expectation that we always look for the safe way to carry out each task.
Over in Victoria, BMC supported Footy Colours Day with a morning tea fundraiser, with all proceeds going to the Fight Cancer Foundation.
Across our Queensland sites, we took some time to ask ‘R U OK?’ as part of the national R U OK campaign in September. Support and connection from one another can get us through challenging times. Our Employee Assistance Program (EAP), PeopleSense remains available for you and your family to access 24/7 for confidential counselling support by calling 1300 307 912 or by booking online using the PeopleSense website.
In Gladstone, we were excited to be one of the new regions in this year’s Monadelphous Community Grants Program. The Gladstone grant applications have been coming in thick and fast, with more than 40 community initiatives and sporting clubs submitting applications. We’re committed to caring for our people and communities and leaving a positive legacy in the regions where we operate and will continue to support initiatives with maximum impact and alignment to our organisational values, customers and priorities.
As we barrel towards the end of the year, let’s continue to look out for each other and stay safe.
Duane
