Welcome to the June edition of On the Hook.
I was incredibly proud of the Heavy Lift team in May as we officially welcomed the CC88.1600-1 into our fleet at a ceremony in Port Hedland. The newest and biggest crane in our fleet has been proudly named after our much-loved former chairman John Rubino. John believed that operating our own cranes, decked out in Monadelphous colours, was a testament to our leading capabilities in site construction and maintenance, and a source of pride for our workforce (and who could disagree!).
The Heavy Lift team pulled out all the stops to support the success of this event. Thank you to the many people involved and your tireless efforts in acquiring, transporting and commissioning this crane and for setting up for this historical ceremony (one for the Monadelphous history book!). As we look to the future, this crane symbolises Monadelphous' Heavy Lift business continued growth and signals a new era of possibilities. For me, the Monadelphous culture and values shone throughout the day with so many people from different parts of our business coming together to celebrate and to deliver a fantastic outcome.
We have now fully moved into and are embracing our new Heavy Lift depots in Port Hedland and Karratha which you can read more about in this newsletter. Both facilities are well equipped to support our operations now and into the future and demonstrate the ongoing commitment of our business to invest in the growth of Heavy Lift and to support work expansion in the Northwest.
The last three months have been a busy period for shuts at Fortescue – thank you to everyone for the successful execution and a good safety performance. We did have a few incidents over the period and learnings have been extracted and communicated. Please continue to ensure you implement your right to stop work at any time and seek guidance from your supervisor if you are not comfortable to proceed.
The Alevro team continue to achieve some significant milestones at Pluto 2 with multiple large modules continuing to be delivered. You can read more about the Tower Lift of the Heavies Removal Column in this newsletter.
Alevro is also mobilising to our second secured project at Ampol Future fuels for Kent in Brisbane to deliver the heavy haul scope. Another significant milestone for the Alevro JV team in securing a project on the East Coast.
I recently visited our team down at CGP3 (Talison Greenbushes) where a large fleet of Monadelphous crawlers and All Terrains are mobilised. The team are doing a fantastic job as part of an integrated Monadelphous team where Melchor, SMP & E&I are all working collaboratively to deliver this project.
A reminder that individuals and teams are invited to share their innovations via MProve by 30 June 2024 to be in the running for the 2023–24 EC Innovation Awards to be presented in October. The judges will be looking for innovations that improve productivity, safety or quality and that can reduce project risks.
An example of a technology innovation currently being implemented is our Driver Distraction fatigue monitoring which will be fitted in Heavy Lift vehicles in coming months. This is a great example of how technology can be used to enhance the safety of our personnel whilst driving.
Enjoy reading about all of the above in the month’s newsletter.
Until next time, stay safe.
