Welcome to the November edition of On the Hook.
It was great to see strong participation from across the business in the 2022 Monadelphous Footy Cup, with over 100 players and many more supporters in Perth. Proudly, the Heavy Lift team had a large number of people participate and Bostyn Bryden from our Planning team took out the Spirit of the Game award for outstanding participation, hard work and sportspersonship. Go Bostyn!
It has been fantastic to see a number of our heavy lift team members spruiking a MO for Movember to raise awareness and funds for Men’s health issues and to make a difference in someone’s life. Awesome efforts everyone, and reminder that it’s not too late to donate to the Movember – Team.
This edition includes an introduction video to Adam Cook, who will be taking over the reins of Executive General Manager, Engineering Construction (EC) in January. Adam has been with Monadelphous, since June 2022 as EC’s Head of Projects. Adam joined us in our Heavy Lift monthly team meeting in November to introduce himself, relay his first impressions of Monadelphous, his commitments to the team and the opportunity pipeline ahead for the construction division.
We continue to recognise and celebrate the 50-year anniversary of Monadelphous, with various events which have so far been held across Gladstone, Kalgoorlie and Karratha. A 50-year edition of the Monadelphous History book is also being released, and you can read more about the stories of the people that have shaped our business in this edition.
November has been a very busy month throughout FMG with multiple shuts across Kings Valley, Eliwana and Firetail. Congratulations to the entire team from mobilisation, planning, admin, HSE, operators and crew, supervisors and superintendents that all came together to support and deliver these shuts injury free. A fantastic team effort and an excellent safety performance. The annual FMG contractor audit was conducted in September at Eliwana, with an overall score of 87% achieved by the team, which is a fantastic result, and everyone involved should be very proud of this achievement.
As we get closer to the end of year, we recognise this is a high-risk time for our people due to increased pressure and distractions that can take our mind off the job. We are launching our Finishing Strong, Starting Stronger campaign, which aims to assist with any key issues what may be affecting our team members during this time.
There are three focus areas in the campaign centred around the Tinny Time program. December will focus on mental health and checking in with our mates. With the return to work in January and February focusing on helping out and speaking up. The Heavy Lift team have really embraced Tinny Time recognition over the last 12 months, creating a positive culture centred around recognising and appreciating teammates for the good things they do and supporting a culture where it is ok to speak up without fear of reprisal, encouraging fresh ideas and empowering our people to stop work if at risk behaviour is noticed.
Please support each other over the coming months and continue to recognise each other and maintain an ongoing focus on keeping each other safe. Remember, the safe way is the only way.
