Leadership Updates
2 Minute Read

Welcome to the September edition of On the Hook. I know the Heavy Lift team enjoy a challenge and out of the box thinking (and are also a bit competitive!), so be sure to check out the story in this edition on improving efficiency, safety and reducing our carbon footprint - which needs your game changing ideas to achieve. Discuss your ideas with your teammates to get the creativity flowing, and I look forward to reading your ideas soon.

It has been great to see the focus on safety interactions. We have had 100 per cent of safety interactions completed in the month of August (410) which is a record and is mainly attributable to a significant increase across our Fortescue Metals Group (FMG) crane services projects. In addition, 94 focus audits were completed, again this is a record for interactions completed for a month. Great work team!

Our team at Woodside have recently supported the maintenance team complete a major shutdown at the Karratha Gas Plant and have been recognised for the great teamwork to meet project milestones. Awesome work team.

In our monthly Heavy Lift meeting two weeks ago, we were joined by Dino Foti, Executive GM – Engineering Construction (EC), to share an update on the EC strategy. Dino shared his insights into the buoyant market outlook and personally thanked the entire Heavy Lift team for the success of the business unit over the last 12 months. We also talked about the “No qualification needed” theme of R U Ok day, reflecting on the power of having a conversation with team mates and picking the right moment to ask R U OK?.

It was also great to see our chairman, John Rubino, jump into the meeting just in time to hear Lindsay Marley explain how the team at Iron Bridge had completed their longest module move, of 48 metres using a 30-line platform trailer and two block trucks, which delayed a bit of traffic leaving site for the evening and had Andrew “Twiggy” Forrest waiting in a passing area as the module rolled passed.  A couple of days later the Heavy Lift crew received positive recognition from Andrew on the 2-way radio as they continued their module moves on site.  Excellent work team!

Recognising the value add of the Heavy Lift team, and in preparation for the workload ahead we have recently placed orders for five new crawler cranes, including two 300T Liebherr’s (LT1300.1), two x 400T Demag’s (CC2400) and one x 700T Liebherr (LR 1700) – now that’s some serious heavy lifting!

Our awesome project engineer, Evelyn Tan (Evie) is continuing to jump on opportunities presented to her and is off to Mongolia to brace the cold and support the Monadelphous project team over there for a couple of months! Thank you for taking up this challenge Evie and we look forward to your ongoing updates.

In closing, I want to recognise Lucky Emery on his 10-year service milestone with Mono’s on 3 September. Congratulations to Lucky for achieving this milestone and for the significant contribution you have made to the business – amazing stuff and here’s to the next 10!

Until next time team, stay safe.
