Our Alevro team has achieved a monumental milestone, successfully completing the heavy haul works for the Pluto LNG Train 2 Project. This caps off an extraordinary two-year execution window, including 13 months of site-based activities, delivered with accuracy, an unwavering commitment to safety and superior technical excellence.

It’s a huge achievement for everyone involved and we couldn’t be prouder!

Reimagining construction and heavy lift in Australia

Alevro, Monadelphous’ heavy lifting services joint venture with Fagioli, was conceptualised to redefine industry standards in Australia, and this project is proof that we’ve done just that. The successful completion of the Pluto Train 2 works validates Alevro as a market leader in turnkey heavy lifting and shift services, reinforcing our reputation as a trusted, world-class supplier capable of tackling some of the most technically complex projects.

Reflecting on this achievement, Alevro Joint Venture Manager, Rod Stribley shared his immense pride:

“This project has provided the platform for our incredibly talented work crews, our robust business systems and our technically gifted design specialists to shine. It highlights the sophistication and accountability with which Alevro operates, working seamlessly with our client. This project has put us on the global map and has showcased our adaptability, agility and dependability in tackling highly complex and technically challenging projects head-on.”

Meticulous engineering, unparalleled execution

Delivering this project required careful planning, with every detail analysed to ensure compliance with Australian Standards and local regulations. From the mobilisation of specialised equipment from across the globe to the intricate co-ordination of heavy lifts, every step was a testament to the team’s expertise, dedication and technical mastery.

The Alevro team’s ability to integrate as one alongside Fagioli was key to delivering a solution that was agile and responsive for our client. Together we delivered, and the results speak for themselves!

  • 10,000 hours of engineering;
  • 168 lines of Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs);
  • 1 x Tower Lift System;
  • 1 x 600t crawler crane;
  • 1 x 1600t crawler crane; and
  • 2 Industry-recognised awards!

However, it was the monumental task of moving and lifting some of the heaviest and largest modules ever transported in Australia (up to 4,550 tonnes each) that truly set this project apart. Achieved through detailed engineering and precision execution, our team delivered:

  • 51 modules, weighing a combined 56,000 metric tonnes.
  • Modules ranging from 50 tonnes to 4,500 tonnes, with the largest reaching 64 metres long and almost 30 metres wide.
  • Modules shipped via deck carrier vessels from the module yard in Batam, Indonesia to Dampier Port and Toll Supply Base.
  • Modules received via roll-on roll-off (RORO) and lift-on lift-off (LOLO) vessels, then transported via SPMTs over a distance of up to 4 kilometres.

Award-winning innovation

Our relentless pursuit of efficiency and safety was recognised at the Crane Industry Council of Australia (CICA) Awards, where Alevro won both the People’s Choice and Judges’ Awards for Innovation. Our custom-built synchronised jacking system, designed specifically for Pluto Train 2, offered superior control and precision, significantly reducing on-site installation time while enhancing safety and efficiency.

This validation of Alevro’s innovative approach and our ability to collaborate to solve insurmountable problems with cutting-edge solutions has launched Alevro into the spotlight. Our client are so impressed with our methodology that they plan to adopt it globally due to its cost and time-saving benefits.

Rod summed up the team’s achievement with a sense of deep personal pride:

“Taking out this prestigious award was the icing on the cake for Alevro. It showcases our innovative and relentless approach to the significant challenges we face in our work. This project has demonstrated to our Industry what Alevro is capable of, and I couldn’t be prouder of our team.”

Once operational, Pluto Train 2 will process Scarborough gas with an LNG capacity of around 5 million tonnes per year, significantly contributing to the Western Australian economy. Beyond the economic impact, this project has set a new industry benchmark, proving that Alevro is not just a contender, but a leader in the heavy haulage and lifting space worldwide.

This incredible achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication, expertise, and commitment of our team. Thank you to everyone who played a role in this extraordinary journey. You’ve made history, and we couldn’t have done it without each and every one of you!
