In the field with Heavy Lift in May

While winter is almost upon us, things certainly aren’t cooling down on the activity front for Heavy Lift. Check out some of the action from the last month.

Pilbara crane services

Solomon fixed plant – GF131 Replacement/Queens Crushing

“For the first time since construction, the grizzly feeder at Queens was scheduled for replacement. Working together with the team at the Kings Ore Processing Facility (OPF) to risk assess and execute the works, a number of challenges were identified and overcome,” said Crane Services Coordinator, Ray Jarvis.

“This job highlighted the synergy between the crane and OPF crew, working together to safely complete an unknown task together – which also received positive feedback from the customer and resulted in a Tinny Time nomination.”

Kings Valley – KV23OP05 Screen Changeout

On the Kings Valley May shutdown, the team were tasked with the removal of screen 402, and the screen 404 line changeout (screen, underpan, mid chute, lower chute).

“Our 450 crew (Scott Ellis, Jayke Mitchell and Blake Ismay) went above and beyond, worked in with Indigenous contractor, Warrikal, to achieve the same goal,” said Project Coordinator, Sean Nayes.

“Our customer commented on how well the team worked together, saying it was like we were all wearing the same shirt, which is something they love to see, with everyone working together as a team no matter what shirt they have on.”

The teams were recognised and given awards by our customer for their hard work, attention to detail and most importantly injury and incident free.

Eliwana – Screen Access Platform Installation

The Eliwana fixed plant team worked with contractor, SRG Global, on a capital project to install screen access platforms.

“The project was completed with no incidents or injuries, finishing within the allocated timeframe,” said Senior Crane Coordinator, Jarrod Cavanagh.

“Prior to project commencement, Monadelphous and SRG supervisors discussed safe methods and job steps required to lift beams into the building. All high-risk works were controlled making the process simple and safe.

Both SRG and FMG were really happy with the input and safe works conducted by our team to complete the project safely.”

Screen access platform

Port Hedland Depot

The team in Hedland continued to deliver on Heavy Lift specific projects, as well as supporting the Engineering Construction projects team as well as works with the Maintenance and Industrial Services (M&IS) division.

• Completed a shutdown at the Pilbara Ports Authority
• Delivered support at Finucane Island for the M&IS team
• Commenced preparation works on a car dumper project
• Load out of a tamper and unload at Nelson Point

Victoria

West Gate Tunnel

Over in Victoria the team delivered girder C1-A06 to Bridge 50 on a fixed 20-line plus spacer deck, self-propelled modular trailer (SPMT) configuration.

Delivery of girder C1-A06 at a total length of 45m, height of 5.8m, and gross weight of 262T

And successfully delivered girder C2-B06 on 2 x 10 lines of SPMT with turn tables, ready to be lifted into place.

Alevro

The Alevro team are ready to get things moving at the Pluto 2 Project. Milestone moment, with the first team photo (of many more to come!).

During the month the team received the first module and successfully transported the module from the Port of Dampier to the Pluto 2 site – more to come on this, stay tuned!
