When Kylie Brown moved to Newman over a decade ago, she had no idea what was in store for her. Initially, she had planned to stay for only a year, but 13 years later, she is still in love with the West Coast lifestyle.
Originally from North Queensland, Kylie began her mining journey in 2011 when she traded the familiarity of Townsville for the challenges of Newman in the Pilbara.
With a background in Transport Logistics, she swiftly transitioned into a Fleet Controller role within the crane industry, setting the stage for an impressive career trajectory.
"I joined Monos in April 2023, stepping into the role of Superintendent for the Fortescue project. I've had the privilege of working with both our shutdown and mines services crews," Kylie said.
"This year, I've taken on an additional responsibility, standing in as the Planning Lead for the next few months."
She has had multiple roles within her career including —Fleet Controller, Shutdown Coordinator, Managing a Crane maintenance workshop, Planning Operations Manager, Operational Superintendent, and Shutdown Manager, before finding her current home at Monadelphous.
"It's been a journey that allowed me to grow as a person, gain strength from challenges, and explore the beauty of the Pilbara – from Newman to Tom Price, Paraburdoo, Karratha, and now, settling in Perth," Kylie reflects.
What stands out for Kylie is the warmth of the Monadelphous team.
"I'm a rare sight in an Operational Leadership role within cranes, and there's only a handful of us here. Yet, the team has been incredibly welcoming, making me feel like a part of the family very quickly," she said.
Kylie's recommendation for joining the industry is as genuine as her journey.
"Mining is a fantastic way to meet people from all around the globe and from all walks of life. I've made my own little 'found family' from people I have met since arriving in WA," she said.
As for the future, Kylie remains open-minded.
"Unsure so far, but I’m looking forward to finding out," she said.
