Volunteering for a cause

Monadelphous once again extended a helping hand as our team joined Perth Homeless Support Group (PHSG) for another impactful Sunday Outreach Service.

Our dedicated volunteers made a meaningful impact by providing essential assistance to 244 individuals facing homelessness in Perth.

The Outreach Service, organised by PHSG, was a lifeline for those in need, offering a range of provisions such as fresh and non-perishable foods, toiletries, clothing, medical aid, and washing facilities. The initiative was led by General Manager, Paul Fishlock, who reflected on the rewarding experience and the reminders it brought about the privileges we often overlook.

"For me, dedicating time to comprehend the challenging situations people face without passing judgment and contributing to the community is crucial," said Paul Fishlock.

The event served as an important lesson, prompting reflection on the daily necessities we often take for granted, such as food, clothing, and shoes. These seemingly simple items can significantly impact the lives of those experiencing homelessness, as shown by the heartfelt gratitude expressed by the recipients of PHSG's support.

Beyond material assistance, PHSG's weekly services emphasise respectful interaction, addressing the social isolation many individuals facing homelessness endure in their day-to-day lives.

Simon Lane, Chairperson at PHSG, highlighted the challenges faced by the organisation.

"As a not-for-profit, we are witnessing an increased demand for emergency hampers, especially since we are one of the few organisations delivering directly to the clients," Simon said.

The dedicated Monadelphous team that volunteered at the Sunday Outreach Service found the experience humbling and invaluable. The sense of pride in collectively contributing to the community was evident among the volunteers, encouraging a shared commitment to continuing these efforts in the future. As costs rise and demand grows, our team remains steadfast in supporting PHSG's mission to make a positive difference in the lives of those experiencing homelessness in Perth.
