Landing in logistics

Kara never imagined her career would take her from airport terminals to site-based logistics, but she wouldn’t have it any other way.

After many years working in aviation—including as a Senior cabin crew member—she made the leap to Monadelphous in 2022, with a special interesting motivating her along the way.

“While I was in aviation, I serviced a lot of the FIFO routes within WA which is where my interest came from for mobilisation and onboarding,” Kara said.

“I came to know many FIFO people in my time and learnt a lot about FIFO from my time spent flying.”

That interest led her to personnel logistics, where she found her true fit.

“It’s the best thing I have ever done,” she said.

Kara thrives on learning new things, saying that no two contracts are ever the same. But for her, the best part of the job is the people.

“My colleagues (who I also call my friends), management and supervision here are amazing. I feel so happy to come to work every day and work in such a supportive team environment,” she said.

One of her most memorable experiences at Monos was heading to Karratha for the first time to provide coverage at the Karratha Gas Plant.

“Walking around KGP makes you feel so small! I was lucky enough to be there at the same time as Jamie Burgess, who walked me through the plant, explaining what everything does,” she said.

“It was so interesting—so different from what you read or see in a PowerPoint presentation.”

She fully embraced the site experience—even when she got “stitched up” into joining the pre-start stretches.

“One of the days, I even got to experience a muster—it was quite daunting at the time until we all realised it was just a drill!” she said.

Outside of work, Kara’s life is just as full. Originally from Victoria, she moved to Broome at nine years old before settling in Perth in 2017.

She has two children, Marley (12) and Mila (5), and last year, she achieved a lifelong dream—building a home for her family.

Her team will also tell you she’s loud, fun and kind, with a love for crazy kitchen dance parties with her kids.

Kara recently stepped into a new role as Senior Project Administrator and is super excited to see where this takes her.

“For now, I’m letting that sink in and just being proud of myself for everything I have achieved here since joining the Energy team. I enjoy a new challenge, so who knows what’s next!” she said.
