M&IS Executive General Manager

I am pleased to share that the M&IS Teamwork Baton has travelled out to sea, about 550 kilometres from Darwin to the latest recipient, the Northern Endeavour Decommissioning Project team.

When it comes to overcoming even the most complex project challenges, the team on the Northern Endeavour has demonstrated that working together to find and deliver solutions is key.

Starting back in August 2022, the project broke new ground for Monadelphous as our first decommissioning project. Originally expected to run for 12 months, the project continues to progress, reflecting the work’s complexity, as well as the trust the team has built with our customer.

The project’s scope includes supporting a fully occupied but non-producing FPSO. Tasks have included extensive scaffolding to support structural integrity, underwater inspections using remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), and repairs to the hull, including challenging areas like the bow with its significant overhang.

A highlight of the project has been the innovative development by our team of a bespoke water-back welding procedure, supported by Lee Oakley and the Central Welding Group.

Steve Saunders, Project Manager for the FMECA scope, has guided the campaign repair team through every stage of the hull repairs, effectively managing the interface between the client, naval architects, offshore regulators, and third-party inspectors.

Throughout the project, the team has also supported valuable training and development opportunities for vacation students and graduate engineers, exposing them to the unique and technically demanding environment. The NT branch, led by Bob Howieson, has also played a key role in ensuring the smooth coordination of materials and logistics.

The team has always kept safety at the forefront, achieving 28 months free of recordable injuries and HPIs—a significant milestone they have achieved through careful planning and collaboration.

To me, the project is a shining example of multiple functions coming together to deliver the best we can for our customer.

Please join me in congratulating the entire team on this well-deserved recognition.
