Celebrating our people and the good work they do is a key part of our culture here at Monos. To help acknowledge those who have gone above and beyond, we have our MMNW Safety Champion and Northern Star Achievement awards. Check out some of the winners over the last few months – could you be next?
SAFETY CHAMPION AWARD
Electrical Supervisor, Steve Nestor – Port & East Pilbara Operations
During a recent workplace inspection of the 11KV project at Mt Whaleback, Steve Nester demonstrated ‘Being Mindful’ when he identified that existing pits within the work area had been covered by severely deteriorated plywood which posed a risk to both people and surface mobile equipment falling into these.
Upon identifying the hazard, Steve immediately ‘Got Involved’ by controlling the area to prevent access and ‘Spoke Up’ by contacting the customer representative to report and rectify it. As the pits are of an unknown depth, and with no signage identifying the holes or boards, Steve’s proactive efforts likely prevented a very serious event.
Well done, Steve!
Superintendent, Nicholas Gibbons – Port & East Pilbara Operations
The work crew were tasked with installing steelwork in preparation for a concrete pour. Through a field interaction conducted by Nicholas, it was identified that team members were required to spend a significant amount of time in an awkward bent over posture to complete thousands of steel fixings.
The team have identified that a rebar tying machine could help mitigate this ergonomic hazard by reducing the time taken to complete this task by up to 75%. This not only reduced the associated ergonomic risk, but also the potential for cuts and punctures as steel ties are automatically folded over, as well as improving productivity.
We would also like to acknowledge the team involved for identifying the improvement with Nicholas – awesome work!
