Port Hedland facility on track

Our team in Port Hedland has recently completed their first upgrade of a track maintenance machine at our new facility – this is just one of 10 track maintenance machines the team will conduct work on over the next twelve months. A track maintenance machine is a self-propelled, rail-mounted machine used to pack (or tamp) the track to make the line durable and level.

Once in the workshop, the team complete structural, mechanical, piping and electrical work upgrades to the machine, including work on the brakes and the installation of a detection system which provides our customer with better visibility of the track machine location on the line, improving efficiency related to planning and reducing risk.

The first track maintenance machine was lifted and relocated from our customer’s site to our branch in early March. Work on this machine is now complete and it has now been delivered back to site with a second machine now at our workshop. A great achievement by the team, completing this work in only six months since the facility opened.

Importantly, this is the first time this type of work has been completed off site at a workshop for our customer, providing a range of benefits centred around managing the work environment and showcasing our new facility.

As always, this work couldn’t be complete without teamwork, with our heavy lift team providing support with cranes and lifting solutions to relocate the machines and supplying an overhead gantry, which is the first in Monadelphous.

Excitingly, this type of work could open a lot of doors for our branch in Port Hedland, showcasing the capability of our team and the benefits of our new facility. For our team, it means ongoing work and the ability to build our capability locally, particularly in the rail and electrical space.

Well done to everyone involved!
