Como celebrates 20 years at Monadelphous

Affectionately known as Como here in the East, and across our whole business, Mark Comollatti is celebrating his 20-year milestone (plus some!) with Monadelphous this year.

We caught up with Como to talk about what’s changed (and what hasn’t) as he reflects on many happy memories of his time working all over the world with Monadelphous.

“I arrived at my first day with Monos’ as a Fitter Machinist in Kalgoorlie on a cool afternoon in July, 1994. Little did I know it was beginning of a 20-odd year journey. Ricky Tasker was leading the job at the time. He called that afternoon and told me ‘You’ve got a start with us.’

“The early nineties were a busy time for our industry and Monadelphous had a multi-skilled workforce at their fingertips to support the demands of their clients, no different to today,” he reflected.

Como’s work ethic and attention to detail has taken him all over the country, and the world, gaining experiences he now reflects upon fondly.

“From touring the gold mines of Kalgoorlie, to constructing iron ore wash plants in the Pilbara, conducting maintenance in the oil fields of Barrow Island, setting up newly awarded contracts in Papua New Guinea, constructing coal seam gas compressor stations and too many shutdowns and turnarounds I care to remember!” he laughed.

With such a wealth of site and business experience, Como often gets asked what does a ‘successful project’ look like?

“To me, a successful project is a culture of employees and management who follow one set of rules, a culture that lives and breathes the Monadelphous core values and the Life Saving Rules. It’s a team where every individual is performing their daily activities safely, looks out for each other and are working safely not because a procedure or process asks them to but because they want to,” he explained.

General Manager Maintenance and Industrial Services Eastern Region, Duane Oxford was pleased to present Como with his service award marking the significant milestone in his employment with Monadelphous.

“Recognising this major milestone for Como is a proud moment. His loyalty to our business for more than 20 years, his ability to build strong relationships and passion for delivering on our projects safely is highly valued. He sets a great example for all of our management and supervisory team in leading people effectively,” he said.

What’s next for Como? He’s recently mobilised to Lihir, PNG as Site Manager.

“I’m not sure I have another 20 years left in me, but hey, we’ll give it a crack!”
