When Alex Longworth finished out his Vacation Program with us in 2010, he only applied for one Graduate role – Monadelphous. Interested in seeing the big projects he’d been exposed to come to life, Monos was the place to be, and his Graduate position gave him ample opportunity to see what we had to offer.

Starting out at Cape Lambert, Alex worked on projects throughout the Pilbara region of Western Australia, moving onto Barrow Island and then Kalgoorlie. A one-year stint in Kalgoorlie soon turned into 10, picking up a wife, house and kids along the way.

“The work onsite was great experience, and you learn way more on a mine site. After the years of FIFO, I decided to settle in and make Kalgoorlie a home.

“I asked to stay because there are lots of clients and different types of work. I did a lot of different projects there – structural, mechanical, piping, blasting and painting, and towards the end I began to specialise more in tank refurbishment,” he said.

When asked about some of his biggest projects, Alex mentioned the major tank refurbishment at Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines (KCGM).

“The repairs had to be made to American standards because it was a large dangerous goods tank. It was interesting to understand the different compliance standards, which are higher compared to the usual Australin standards,” he commented.

After a decade in red sands, Alex and his family recently relocated to Bunbury on the South West coast.

“We went for a holiday in Perth and down south, and thought - this is a pretty nice corner of WA. We’d been thinking we’d like to move and now its time to try something different.”

Recently promoted to Project Manager, Alex is working on shutdowns in Boddington and has his first project in coal at Premier Coal mine in Collie.

Congratulations on the new role Alex, and welcome to the South West!
