Newmont Boddington Gold mine is one of the biggest gold mines in Western Australia and our team has been providing maintenance, structural, mechanical and piping work there since 2016.
We have a core crew working on maintenance works around site. During a major shutdown the team can grow anywhere between 60 to 200 people.
A major shutdown usually consists of bigger maintenance work, including chute, liner and valve replacements. Our customer gives us a scope pack with all the works, and information including proposed schedule and isolation, which we then use to plan the shutdown.
We had a major shutdown in July over a six-day period made up of day and night shift crews. We often work cross both the wet and dry plant on site, for this shut we were focused on upgrades to the dry plant working in areas such as fine ore feeders and seven / eight transfer.
Mark Holdman, Area Manager, was very pleased with how the shutdown went and the overall performance of the team.
“It is always great to see our teams in action, doing what we do best and delivering the work safety, which is our priority.”
The team is now looking forward to their next major shutdown in November, where they will gear up again to a team of around 100 people.
