Our team at Worsley Alumina in South-West WA recently completed major chute replacements over a six-month period, resulting in improved housekeeping and safety on site.
The scope of work was crucial to reduce the risk of caustic contact from leaking chutes. Completed in two stages, the team replaced two trouser leg chutes underneath the drum filters, connected to the course seed tanks below.
This work required meticulous planning as it needed to happen within a limited window during planned digestor outage, avoiding any impact on production.
Project Manager Chad Sellenger said the team did an exceptional job to keep the project on schedule and without incident.
“The feedback from the customer has been really positive as this project successfully addresses a safety concern for them and our team put together a well thought out methodology to ensure the work was executed safely,” he said.
“It was a high-risk and high-profile project, navigating potential production impacts and the risk of caustic contact, however our team’s planning ensured we completed the work to a high standard.
“It’s also a credit to the reputation our team has built and maintained that we were the contractor trusted by our customer to complete this work safely.”
Chad said that the team continues to live up to their strong reputation in the South-West.
“Special mention goes to Project Senior Supervisor Jamie Thomson and the Major Shutdown Core Crew members for their commitment to ensuring nothing is missed when it comes to executing the job safely,” he said.
Well done to all involved.
