When wet weather, lightning alerts and a packed shutdown schedule hit the Goldfields in April, our crews still managed to successfully complete the shutdown ahead of schedule.

Not only did the team complete three major tank replacements and critical crusher piping works during two short consecutive shutdowns, but they also stepped in to finish incomplete works from other contractors and clear outstanding punch list items, all while maintaining safety and quality standards.

The works included the replacement of two lagged tanks with associated structural steel and piping, as well as a key section of processing mill pipework.

All three tanks were fabricated at our Kalgoorlie workshop before being surface-coated in the blast and paint workshop ahead of installation.

Despite difficult conditions and multiple delays caused by weather and lightning alerts, the day and nightshift crews worked around the clock and completed the project several days ahead of schedule without incident.

Project Engineer Riley Newton said the crews never lost momentum, even when the scope of work continued to grow throughout the shutdown.

“Every time we thought we were wrapping something up, another job landed in front of the team,” Riley said.

“But no one complained. Everyone just got on with it and backed each other up. That’s what made the difference.”

As the shutdown progressed, the team was also asked to take over work originally assigned to other contractors, including bringing unfinished jobs up to the required site standard in the week following the shutdown.

The shutdown involved three separate Monadelphous teams working across multiple scopes simultaneously, coordinating structural, mechanical and piping activities within tight timeframes.

Through strong planning, collaboration between day and nightshift crews and a willingness to adapt to changing site conditions, the teams delivered every scope safely, ahead of schedule and to the quality expected by the customer.
