Respect in online culture with Starick

Each May, communities across Australia mark Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month. It's a time to raise awareness, promote prevention, and reaffirm that family and domestic violence is not inevitable, acceptable, or unavoidable.

Family and domestic violence is a gendered issue, driven by inequality and power imbalances. It takes many forms, including physical, emotional, financial and psychological abuse, and coercive control. While it affects people from all walks of life, women and children are overwhelmingly impacted.

To mark this month of awareness, Monadelphous once again partnered with Starick Foundation to build understanding of this important issue with a company-wide Lunch and Learn.

In this interactive session, we explored the influence of online culture, touching on the manosphere, social and digital media, and what positive masculinity, allyship and shared responsibility look like in practice. We talked about economic and financial abuse, including the impact of the current costofliving pressures and housing crisis.

We all have a responsibility to prevent violence and to provide support to those impacted. As an individual, you can speak up when you see disrespectful behaviour and start conversations about respect. Don’t shy away from challenging conversations or be afraid to call it out.

Through education and raising awareness, we can all contribute to building safer spaces, online and in the person, where respect and dignity are non-negotiable.

Together we can break down the stigma and keep the conversation going by living and leading with Respect in Every Step.

Monadelphous employees and their immediate family can access free support through our EAP at any time.
