Skylar began her journey with Monadelphous in 2022 as an administrative officer at our Bunbury workshop. Later that year, Skylar was offered the opportunity to join the Monadelphous Indigenous Pathways Program.

"I discovered the program through Claudia, one of the mentors, while I was exploring opportunities for personal and professional growth. She introduced me to it, and we had a conversation about my interests," Skylar shared.

Throughout her life, Skylar has consistently found herself in leadership and mentoring positions within her family and community, making her realise early on that this was a path she wanted to pursue as a professional career.

"At first, I considered social work, but I was unaware that similar roles existed across various industries," Skylar said.

Driven by her passion and the potential to integrate her newfound knowledge into her role at Monadelphous, Skylar made the decision to pursue a Certificate IV in Leadership and Mentoring.

"The training has been intense but also very rewarding. Being the youngest in my cohort has given me the invaluable opportunity to learn from people with so much life experience," she added.

Since commencing the course, Skylar has actively applied her skills in practical settings and has been assigned mentees within the Monadelphous business. As a mentor, her responsibilities include regular check-ins with her mentees, offering support whenever needed.

"It has been an extraordinary opportunity. I've never had a job that has provided opportunities for personal growth and upskilling," Skylar expressed. " I really enjoy the different aspects of what I’ve been learning, every day is a different day, and I am doing something I am really passionate about."

Skylar's ultimate goal is to establish a long-term career in mentoring and leadership, specifically focusing on supporting Indigenous employees within a site-based environment.
