Our winning spirit continued into November, with our team taking home the National Safety Excellence Award for the Poly Weld Stand innovation. An innovation developed as a true collaborative effort between the trades team and professional team – covering all bases and perspectives to ensure we developed a fit for purpose, and most of all safer solution, for undertaking a routine task. Congratulations to everyone involved, this is a huge achievement and recognition of the hard work in developing such a solution we encourage all to keep the innovations and safety improvements coming.
Our safety performance continued to improve during November, and we appreciate the constant effort required every day. We are entering a higher risk period with the summer and holiday season approaching, which means it’s more important that we maintain our focus and look out for each other as it is a time of the year people can be distracted and complacency can creep in. Across the Engineering Construction (EC) division, the safety forums, Finishing Strong, Starting Stronger, have commenced which include a two-day engagement session on site in support of a safe lead up to year end, and a strong start into the new year.
With several projects demobilising in late October and November, our recruitment team have been very busy actively engaging with our workforce to ensure we have continuity for our people. Over the past six weeks we have been able to find continuity for most of our workforce were possible mainly transferring to Ironbridge and two small shutdowns at BHP and Rio.
Iron Bridge reached over 350 people employed on the project this month with supplementary works added to our existing scope, looking to take us above the initial anticipated 400 peak.
During the month we executed a shutdown at BHP’s South Flank Project at Inflow, and then headed back over to Rio’s Western Turner Syncline 2 project for another shutdown. In flow shutdown has been executed successfully and Western Turner Syncline (WTS) 2 is currently just commencing, due for completion early December.
At Talison’s Greenbushes, work on the Mine Services Area (MSA) is progressing well with increased mobilisation expected in January 2023.
A significant amount of you may be rostered to work over the festive period. We recognise and appreciate that this is a challenging period to work through and the sacrifices you and your loved ones make do not go unrecognised. We thank you and your families for your support.
We hope you enjoy this edition of Around the Sites, for our final edition of the year – we’ll be bringing you a special edition festive video version – stay tuned!
Stay informed, stay focused – the safe way is the only way! Until next time.
Paul and Brett
