CD3 Project Update - Progress and Key Milestones

We recently caught up with our team in Port Hedland for an update on the CD3RP project, which is enhancing our operations and infrastructure in the region. 

The recommencement of the CD3 project in April marked a significant milestone, bringing us one step closer to our goals. 

Project Manager Brent Jones highlighted the project's current progress. 

"We've successfully completed a recent shutdown, and another is on the horizon. Our first major shutdown outage is set to commence at the end of May" Brent said. 

Several notable achievements have been made on-site: 

• 1600t crane commissioning: The 1600t crane, now fully commissioned and ready for mobilisation. This heavy-lifting equipment is critical in mitigating risks associated with the ageing CD3 cell, significantly enhancing our operational capabilities. 
• Major fabrication packages: These have been awarded to subcontractors, ensuring the timely progression of crucial project components. 
• Civil package: Set to be awarded by the end of June. 
• Critical procurement: All long lead electrical items are on schedule, reflecting our commitment to maintaining project timelines. 

Key individuals across the team have played pivotal roles in reaching these milestones.  

"Everyone has played a significant role in getting the project where it is today. This is why we have such a high-performing team," said Brent. 

Innovations on-site have also propelled the project forward. A critical change in methodology from roll-in roll-out to utilising the 1600t crane has streamlined processes, reducing the shutdown duration significantly. Additionally, the removal of certain concrete details has contributed to a significant reduction in hours during the major shutdown period, thanks to the retention of a core crew onsite. 

Brent also shared a recent memorable moment for the team. 

“We were lucky enough to have the Rubino family visit our team on site to witness the 1600t crane handover ceremony event,” Brent shared.  

"With the new crane being named ‘Rubino’ after our former chairman John Rubino, it was really great to be able to show his family the legacy he has left behind and to show that we are committed to honouring his memory through the work we do onsite.” 

Looking ahead, the team is focused on the upcoming major shutdown outage. This period will be crucial for advancing the project and ensuring that all components are aligned for seamless execution.
