After completing his trade in Sydney, Edward ‘Eddie’ Lowry saw jumping into Western Australia construction as a new adventure. He began his journey at Monadelphous in 2004, as a Pipe Fitter on the 36MT Rio Tinto Expansion in Yandicoogina.
He returned to our team in 2007 on the Newman Hub Project, and again in 2015 as part of Monadelphous Engineering Associates (MEA), working as a Piping Superintendent on the INPEX MEC-2 LNG Project, and later on the Kemerton Lithium Project.
Following his Kemerton stint, Eddie was keen to move into the Perth head office full time, where he assisted on the Western Turner 2 Shutdown.
Never one to rest on his laurels, Eddie was again ready for a challenge.
“After Western Turner 2, an opportunity came up to become a planner. I enrolled and completed a P6 Fundamentals Course and that commenced my career change into the planning/project controls space.”
Today a Planning Superintendent, Eddie said that changing from site-based construction to front end project controls was the hardest and most rewarding part of his career so far.
“It’s been fantastic to be challenged and learn the skills (slowly sometimes) to overcome those challenges. It’s been humbling to say the least.”
Over his seven years, Eddie has steadily become an integral part of the team in EC projects. When we asked him what was important in a great team, he said,
“Trust. Being reliable as a team member and as a leader. You must be able to rely on each other in a successful team.”
Being dependable is important to Eddie, and this trait spills over into his relationships with family and friends.
“I enjoy spending time with my family and friends in my down time. Now I’m no longer site based, I’m able to enjoy more quality time with them, which suits me.”
Eddie is looking forward to continuing to make a positive impact in the project controls space. We wish him all the best and can’t wait to see what comes next is his engineering adventures.
