Powering respectful workplaces

In April, more than 40 people, both in person and online, took part in a wellbeing session facilitated by Happiness Co. It came as part of Monos’ mission to expand its commitment to workplace wellbeing, ensuring our people feel supported, valued, and empowered.

At the helm of the presentation was Robbie Figg, who explained how Happiness Co work in the green space, or what’s known as the pre-emptive mental health space. Here, the focus is on promoting happiness and sharing everyday tools to equip people with ways to manage stress and feelings of unhappiness, and how to build resilience before challenges escalate.

The session explored how to create respectful, positive team cultures and why they matter. The key topics included:

  • Addressing and calling out disrespect in the workplace
  • The importance of inclusivity, recognition, and authenticity
  • Practicing active listening and fostering a sense of belonging

Robbie turned the conversation to the room with questions like, “What does it cost when teams don’t understand the line?” and challenged attendees to be curious rather than judgmental, encouraging empathy and understanding when engaging with others.

Another key theme was the importance of self-awareness, taking time to check in with yourself and your behaviour.

“If you’re noticing yourself being that person who isn’t saying hello, check in with yourself. Self-respect is a huge part of the workplace because if you can’t respect yourself, you can’t respect other people. Look inward, it can really help,” Robbie said.

The session was an energising reminder that mental wellbeing isn’t just about addressing problems, it’s about creating an environment where people thrive together.
